Poles and flysheet determine how stable the tent is and how much it rattles and moves in the storm. For those who want to be able to travel the tent quickly or alone, there are so-called inflatable tents with air ducts instead of poles.
The structure and material of the tent poles determine how the family tent is experienced when it´s windy. They also affect the weight of the tent and how easy it is to assemble.
